Davy's Answers to the Questionnaire for Performers of ChildAid 2009
1. Personal Details
Name: Davy Tan Teck Wee
Age/Birthday: 8 years old / 7 October 2001
School (tell us your school & standard): St Andrew’s Junior School, Primary 2
Family (tell us more about your family):
My dad is an Implementation Consultant with a Financial Services MNC while my mum runs a Toy Rental business. Both of my parents have been serving in the church worship team as drummer/guitarist (dad) and keyboardist (mum) for the past 20 years. That was how I picked up drumming (by following them for worship practices ever since I was a baby!) I also have a younger sister, Deborah, who is very chatty and loves to dance.
Interests & favourite pastimes:
Playing the drums, reading, sketching and doing craft-work.
I love “Hotwheels” and also enjoy playing the yo-yo and computer games.
Tell us three interesting (or quirky) things about yourself:
I enjoy fixing up all the “Hotwheels” trick-tracks and cars that I have into a giant stunt series and watching the stunts unfold. After which, I will set-up in a different combination and watch the stunts unfold again. I can repeat this at least ten times during each play session.
I fell in love with "That Thing You Do" when I first saw the movie on DVD & began jamming along with the featured band (almost a daily affair) since I was 2 years old on my kiddo drumset (check it out in You Tube).
I cannot keep my hands and feet still. Whenever I am seated, my feet will start moving as if I am stepping on my drum pedals and soon enough, my hands will start tapping and a rhythmic tune will pick up naturally.
2. Musical/Performing History
What is your highest musical achievement to date?
I was the first runner up at the Singapore Drum Festival Drum Challenge 2008 for the Junior Category at 6 years old. The winner was 12-year old Aaron Lee.
I will be taking my Grade 2 in Drums this November 2009.
What is the biggest occasion or event that you have performed at (do give details like when and where this took place, what you performed, who was the Guest of Honour/VIP in attendance (if any) and the size of the audience)?
It would be competing at the Singapore Drum Festival Drum Challenge 2008 as the youngest drummer at 6 years old.
I also performed on National TV as one of five finalists in the Kids Central “One Minute of Fame” program in September 2006 by playing a modified kiddo drumset to the tune of contemporary music.
3. Personal Thoughts
What made you decide to take part in ChildAid 2009?
I would like to play a part in helping to raise funds for the poor and needy students through the drumming talent that God has given me.
What does being part of ChildAid 2009 mean to you?
I am so happy that I can perform on the big stage and help other children at the same time. I can also improve on my drumming skills by learning from others and playing together as a team.

Audition For ChildAid 2009
In August 2009, Davy came to know about the ChildAid auditions through Uncle Jimmy and decided to give it a shot.
In September 2009, Davy was shortlisted and eventually got selected to be one of the performers in ChildAid 2009.
Quoting ST: "More than 550 children applied to perform at the ChildAid concert this year, nearly double what organisers received last year, and whittling down the audition list to just 35 acts was no easy task."
At Primary 2, Davy was happy and excited when he knew that he could share his talents this way and at the same time help the poor and needy children!

Combine Item by the 4 Finalists of the 2008 Drum Challenge Below 12
12 & Under Finalists
Aaron James Lee Han Ming12-year-old Aaron is the son of local drummer Jimmy Lee. With his dad as a major influence, Aaron is a huge fan of jazz, Latin and pop drumming. Says Aaron: “I love drumming because of the fact that one can explore really deep into it.”
Davy Tan Teck WeeA fan of Dave Weckl, six-year-old Davy practices everyday and is a fan of Christian rock. When asked about why he loves drumming so much, Davy bashfully mentions that he simply “loves the sound of the cymbals.”
Muhammad Farihin Farkhan Bin NashirAs a fan of metal and rock drumming, Farihin’s favorite parts of the kit are undeniably the double pedal and the snare. The 10-year-old cites Travis Barker as his favorite drummer and is always on the constant quest to improve his drumming everyday.
Isabella Rose WilliamsJust like her middle suggests, Isabella is the “rose” among the boys. As the sole female drummer out of the entire Drum Challenge Asia contest, Isabelle stands out not only with her drumming but also with her fun approach for the drums. “For me, drumming can really show who you are and you can explore and do whatever you want on a drum kit,” says the little lass who is a fan of Linkin Park and Gwen Stefani.

Bang! Bang! Bang!
How and when it came about....
Let the pictures do the talking...

Davy at 18 mths
... with his first drumset from po-po,
... modified by his dad using cds as cymbals
... and cereal tin covers as hi-hats.

Davy as an "observer" at 25 months
... a fornightly affair since a baby to worship practice in church with dad and mum.

... anything that can be banged... guess what will happen when he gets hold of them?

Davy at 28 months
He finally gets a "proper" drumset from his godparents for Christmas!
He fell in love with "That Thing You Do" when he first saw the movie on DVD and began jamming along with the featured band (almost an every day affair) since 2 years old...Davy playing "That Thing You Do" when he was 2 years old...

Guess what did Davy receive from his gu-gu on his 3rd birthday?
... a brand new kiddo drumset (that he has been using till now)!
It has been a miracle that this set could survive that long taking into consideration the way that it has been banged and hit... (haha!)
Check out the present state of the drumset!?!!
